BABY WEARING REVIEW

I have chronic back pain, so I was really worried I wouldn’t be able to handle baby wearing, but REALLY wanted to. There are SO MANY benefits to baby-wearing. One study found that babies who are worn for 3 hours a day cry 43% less! It also helps with bonding and milk production. That being said, all the baby wearing options can be overwhelming. If possible, search if your area has a baby wearing consultant because that was HUGELY helpful for me! Jay from Modern Baby Wearing in the California Bay Area met with me in a local shop for a $100, 60 minute consult. I put on all of the wraps I owned and she helped me to adjust the settings and showed a few new ways to wear my son and it made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world for my back!

I will show you my favorite baby carriers and some tricks about how to use them in the video below (plus one back saving tip for carrying the car seat!).

THE CARRIERS

The Solly wrap is made on Lenzing, a super silky fabric made from Australian Beechwood trees.

  • Solly Baby Wrap: made of beechwood trees from Australia, it is similar to a Moby wrap but more breathable. This is my cozy, everyday (all day) baby carrier. Getting the right tension can take some time to practice, but now I can put it on PERFECTLY in 30 seconds, so keep at it! It’s a little tricky to put on if you are out and about, so I put it on before leaving home, or try to put it on without letting the fabric drag on the ground. It’s a good idea to have 2, in case one is in the wash.

  • Ergo 360: I love this carrier for hiking and it’s also the easiest to breastfeed in (in my opinion). It’s great because you can just snap it on and go. It does give me a bit of a muffin top, so I like to wear a zip-up sweater or vest over when possible. Ergo states you can use for babies 14-48 pounds (about 4 months-4 years), but our son felt a little large for it around 2 years.

  • Ring Sling (I have Wild Bird): This is the baby carrier I am yet to master, but I love the idea of it and know many moms who swear by them. I also heard they are coming to online Target soon!!

I hope these tips help you as you find the most comfortable way to wear your baby! I would love to hear your experience with any of these (or other carriers) below!
