JONES ROAD MIRACLE BALM UNSPONSORED REVIEW

Five Word Review:

Sticky Vaseline, Over priced, pass

I know, I know… my 5 word review is pretty scathing. But when you charge around $50 shipped and call something “Miracle Balm”… my expectations are high.

Bobbi Brown SOLD Bobbi Brown and 25 years later, when her non-compete expired, the very next day she started Jones Road. I became obsessed with my desire for the Miracle Balm I saw on Instagram, but could not bring myself to checkout and pay close to $50 ($38+ tax/shipping) for… shimmer? While I was still noodling on the purchase, I sent them an email to ask for advice with my photo/coloring and they recommended the color Dusty Rose. As much as I wanted to do an Unsponsored Review, we’re on a budget and I just cannot justify $50 shimmer (even though it touts that it can replace ALL of my other makeup and I have a perfectly good reason, for this review!).

Lo and Behold, my amazing Mother-In-Law and our friend both purchased Miracle Balm and… didn’t like it. Neither did my SIL, who received Dusty Rose from my MIL before passing along to me. Technically in the third owner of this Miracle Balm and third person who is not in love (and two of those people got it for free!).

The colors? DUSTY ROSE and Tawny!!! So lucky for us, I am coming in hot with an Unsponsored Review.

Miracle Balm feels like vaseline, is a bit sticky and shows off all of my pores.

Highlights:

  • It has 32,000+ 4-star reviews.

  • Texture is like Vaseline

  • Complaints about the smell (like eucalyptus and lemon, which actually sounds nice to me).

  • Product doesn’t stay all day and hard to reapply because it gets all over your fingers.

There was something about Bobbie Brown herself, relaxing on her couch, raving about her new Miracle Balm that made me feel like she was my really cool Aunt who just developed an amazing new product and I HAD TO TRY IT (edited to add I FELT like she was on her couch but upon second look she appears to be at headquarters in a cozy sweatshirt).

It always makes me laugh when companies say things like, “We can’t keep it in stock!” and “There is a wait list!” because if they only make 50 of something and can’t keep it in stock, then there’s going to be a waitlist (although she did say they have a waitlist of 10,000 for their mascara and I’m choosing to believe her).

My goodness, I wanted to love this. She says that it’s both skincare AND makeup and we can THROW AWAY all of our makeup because it’s going to REPLACE EVERYTHING (which doesn’t make sense because all of the colors of the balm are all different). I’m here to tell you: you can NOT throw away ALL your makeup.

If you buy Dusty Rose you could possibly throw away… your cream blush

(but now I want my blush back).

Golden hour? Toss your shimmer highlight creme.

Tawny? Your contour bronzing might be able to go.

RETURNS/ EXCHANGES

When shopping online, this is always my #1 priority: How screwed am I going to be if I don’t love it? My least favorite part about Jones Beauty is the fact that you can’t shop in person and they charge shipping both ways. “We accept exchanges within 45 days and returns within 30 days of purchase, even if the products have been used, with the exception of kits, sets, and apparel which are final sale. Returns of exchanges may be limited based on program abuse, misuse, or bulk purchases. Shipping charges are non-refundable. A $10 restocking fee may apply.

Alternate (better) Options IMHO:

I usually use the NARS Multiple Cream Blush Stick in Orgasm ($39).

I also do like Glossier Cloud Paint Gel Cream in Puff ($20).

Ilia Multi Stick ($36) is easier to apply as a stick, is portable to reapply after lunch and best is that you can try the colors on at Sephora.

Jones Road is the Cosmetics Company that Bobbi has EARNED to create. And I’m all for it!

“In 2020, on the day her non-compete expired, Brown launched a direct-to-consumer beauty brand, Jones Road, based in Montclair, New Jersey. Funded by Brown and her husband, Steven Plofker… With 15 full-time employees and one retail store, also in Montclair, it’s a far leaner organization than the behemoth Bobbi Brown cosmetics line, and that’s the way she likes it.

“Everything now is really organic, and I’m not talking about the products,” Brown said of Jones Road. “The process is organic and it’s collaborative and it’s interesting. And no one thinks my ideas are dumb, and no one tells me I can’t do something. I just do it, and it’s working” (Quartz.com)
