Childhoods night set Dupes
I was SO excited when my friend shared her favorite night sets. These pajamas looked a LOT like the $50 night sets from Childhoods Clothing, but her version cost $12.74-$16.99 from Amazon. Without skipping a beat I loaded them into my cart and couldn’t wait to see if I would be relieved of my expensive baby pajama habit.
The quick answer? Vaenait is an awesome option for someone who wants to try out soft and silky pajamas. I personally have Childhood’s sets too and like having Vaenait as more of a “play set". Avauna (see the bottom of this post) is another Childhood’s Dupe from Amazon. I still buy Childhoods used on Facebook because I like the heirloom quality and environmentally friendly nature of buying USA made and reselling.
Now, I’m right there with you. $50 for baby pajamas sounds INSANE. I thought so too for a while until I saw how the Childhood’s night sets FLEW out of stock when they were released. I started asking around: what is the hype? Are they worth it? In my experience, the answer is yes and I’ll tell you why. First, I usually find (and sell) them used on the Facebook BST group or Instagram for around 20-25% off retail. They are usually well taken care of and look fairly similar to new. Because I am buying used, it’s so much better for the environment. The night sets (along with all of their other products) are so well made that they don’t just last for your one kid (and the kid you purchased them from), but can be used and handed down for each of your kids. The last “value add” I will say about their night sets is that we almost always use them during the day, too. Either the pants or the top or both. You can also buy new from the company (of course) and they offer a discount if you sign up for their newsletter for your first purchase.
If you do want to try Childhood’s (I recommend all of their clothing items), remember to SIZE UP!!!
Cohen at 9 months in the 12-18 Childhood’s Night Set in Steel Blue (Modal fabric). He had almost grown out of them.
The Childhood’s night sets come in a few different fabrics. 1x1 is colors like navy and galaxy and is a thicker, flat cotton. 2x1 is colors like natural stripe and charcoal stripe and is my personal favorite, feeling like a traditional ribbed cotton. They also made a modal, which is unbelievably soft and much thinner than the other two (most comparable to Vaenait). My only caveat with the modal is we have very hard water, so it looks worn faster than the other two fabrics and gets stains from Cohen’s spit up every time (Fels Naptha to the rescue!), so I no longer buy modal sets. When you are trying to keep clothes in good shape to hand-down or resell, wash wear is not great.
Do the Vaenait pajama sets measure up to the Childhood’s Clothing (CC) Night Sets for $37 less?
NOW, onto the real reason we’re here: how did the Vaenait Night sets measure up? I would first like to start by saying that they smell AWFUL when they come out of the bag and I’m not sure why, but the smell goes away completely in the first wash. They are super soft and feel very similar to Childhood’s modal sets. The fit is actually true to size, whereas Childhood’s sets run small for us. For reference, Cohen wore this Vaenait set from 9 months and they still fit at 15 months. The neckline is a little different and I feel like he is a little L.L. Bean model in the mock turtleneck style. The last piece I’ll add is that I don’t believe these have resale value, so it is a “one and done” set and they are made overseas (if that is something important to you). Overall, I’m glad we tried these and will put them into rotation or wear in situations where they might get dirty. They have lasted/held up with some wash wear for 6 months and still fit! I ‘m really glad I tried them. Vaenait does have a huge line of pajamas and clothing and they do have great reviews, so it may be worth checking out some of their other pieces too.
There is also another Amazon-dupe player in the game! Avauna is closest to Childhoods 1x1 fabrics and is a plain, thicker, flat 95% cotton (5% spandex) fabric. I have the same thoughts on these as I do about Vaenait; they fit for longer (he has been wearing the same pair from 9 months to currently at 15 months) and the quality has held up. They are great to have as a cheaper option to Childhood’s sets, but you can’t resell. We will buy the next size up in these!
Left to right: Vaenait from Amazon ($16.99) is most similar to Childhood’s Modal Sets. The middle is Childhood’s Modal Night Set ($50 new, $35-40 used on Facebook through BST). The right is Avauna from Amazon ($18.99), most similar to Childhoods 1x1 sets.
In summary, we have each pair and I like them all for different reasons. Childhoods is still our go-to, as I love the heirloom quality and try to be a bit more green when possible (they are made in the USA and I buy and sell used on Facebook). We love Vaenait and Avauna for extra pairs and I don’t mind if they get dirty.
