The Best Frozen Pastries
I’d love to connect with you on Instagram, where I share home, health and lifestyle tips!
You too can be Steve Martin in ‘It’s Complicated’ and have a chocolate croissant whenever you feel like it!*
*As long as you know you will ‘feel like it’ 8 hours prior so that you have time to proof
Whenever we have overnight or brunch guests I love to pull out my fancy frozen pastries the night before so we can all have ‘fresh out of the oven’ goodies in the morning, like our airBNB host did for us in Paris. The fact that you can buy them and keep in your freezer makes them even more convenient.
OVERALL FAVORITE:
Porto’s Bakery: the Refugio Guava Pastry and their Cheese Rolls. These are EVEN BETTER when baked at home because they come out WARM. Seriously. Life. Changing. You also do not have to proof these, which is a major win.
BEST STICKY BUN:
I received the most luxurious hostess gift from my friend Megs, Sticky Buns from Williams Sonoma. Not to be rude but because I wanted to review them I looked up the price and they are a whopping $45! They do go “on sale” and everyday you can get 15% off plus free shipping, so you are looking at around $3.18 per bun (they come in a pack of 12). These were the most expensive but incredibly decadent. They come in 3 trays of 4 so you can use them 3 times (or once if you have a party of 12 like Christmas morning). DELICIOUS DECADENT FANCY MORNING TREAT.
Best Chocolate Croissant:
From Whole Foods- Boulangerie Solignac “Rise and Bake Chocolate Croissants.” They are $8.50 for 4 which makes them $2.12 each. These looked the best after baking (straight profesh), had the best flakey crust and overall received higher marks. The chocolate was more of a true semi-sweet and our one caveat was that there wasn’t really enough chocolate. BUT C.J. felt that refined the experience by not overpowering our palette.
Best “Bang for your Buck”:
“4 Chocolate Croissants” from Trader Joes. They weren’t behind by much and they may be first place for someone who LOVES chocolate. There was more chocolate per bite and the chocolate was sweeter than it’s Whole Foods counterpart. Coming in at $1.12 each, they are a nice morning treat for a good deal!
Whole Foods’ Chocolate Croissant has a smaller amount of more decadent chocolate, while Trader Joe’s has more of a sweet milk chocolate-y Filling
