SIBLINGS CANDLES {UNSPONSORED} REVIEW

5 word review:

Earth Friendly, Easy, Luxurious

“For as long as people have been using candles, they’ve been creating waste… most glass tumblers never get reused or recycled- contributing to landfill: and an empty candle can take up to a MILLION years to break down… Every step towards living sustainably matters, and every Siblings candle- with it’s plant-based packaging and natural coconut blend wax- makes a difference” (Siblings).

Siblings is (literally) a sibling duo that have created a way to refill your candle vessels. They make a variety of wonderful coconut-wax scent combinations that come in a plant-based bag that is heated in the microwave, then poured into your favorite candle vessel (they also have a forever-vessel for sale on their site).

My coworker and friend (thanks, Maggie!) told me about Sibs and I was so excited to give them a try. The idea was mind-blowing (not really the idea, but the idea that refilling candles isn’t something we regularly do). I have 2 large hurricane vessels in my bedroom and have been frequently lighting 2 candles at once for some extra hygge. It’s definitely lovely, but the candles are (really) expensive and I felt so wasteful frequently purchasing new ones.

The step-by-step instructions that come with each order could not be easier to follow and I was so thrilled to give some of my old pottery a new life!

Step 1: Select a vessel (tumblers, cups, or jar) that can withstand heat and won’t leak, crack, or catch fire. It should be approx. 3-4” wide, glazed ceramic, sturdy glass, sealed metal, or enamel.

Step 2: Microwave open bag of wax for 3 minutes.

Step 3: Pour wax into your set-up vessel (wick pre-placed).

OPTIONAL: add-in dried flower petals and crystal. If you use the dried flower petals (optional add-on), discard the candle when there is 1/4” of wax left to prevent smoking. Note: I don’t see this currently available for sale on their site.

Step 4: Let candle sit at room temperature for 2 hours. Follow above tips to treat your candle right!

PROS:

The candles I tried smell delicious. I tried scents Number 1 (bergamot, white rose, oak moss) and Number 4 (eucalyptus, evergreen, berries). Scent Number 4 reminded me and my gal pal of “earthy, woodsy, glamping.” We named it “Laundry in the Woods.” I would say scent Number 1 reminds me a little bit of Diptyque’s Baies candle, but more subtle. “Floral, sweet, light” and I would name it “Rich Lady Floral Whisper.” (Note to Siblings: We are available for candle-naming services, should you decide to go with jazzy names in the future).

It’s way better for the environment. The wax is cleaner. You can reuse your favorite vessels and ceramics. It costs less than purchasing new candles. You can re-microwave the bag to use all the wax in different vessels if needed.

CONS:

You can fill one large 4” wide candle or (if you purchase extra wicks) multiple smaller candles or votives. You can’t sample the scents (but I was told they are working on this… can’t wait!). The price is very fair and less than buying new luxury candles, but it’s not exactly “cheap.” You get what you pay for, which is a luxury candle ($22 or $18.70 if you subscribe).

Overall, I will definitely be trying more scents and ordering again. I have 2 ceramic vessels that I made during my pottery-days and will be refilling them over and over with Siblings!

Every small step counts for our lovely planet, earth!
