Fancy Snacks: Honey Almond Cheese Treats
I’d love to connect with you on Instagram, where I share home, health and lifestyle tips!
I learned about this fancy snack during one of my life’s greatest achievements: my husband and I were the very first customers at our neighborhood Cheese Shop’s grand opening. We were the only ones there and I had a feeling the owner was pulling out all the stops to impress us and impress us, she did. My favorite part about these Fancy Snacks is they are easy enough to make 2 (or 6) for yourself as they are to make for a party. Instead of grabbing french fries or something else fast, why don’t you take the extra 4 minutes and make yourself a fancy snack? You will feel appreciated as the King/Queen that you are!
To Buy:
Anthropologie Dottie Honey Bear Pot ($20). Technically it is possible to make yourself this snack without this golden polka-dotted bear but I wouldn’t recommend it. You do need honey but you don’t have to actually put it in Dottie because then you will have more dishes to do. Use whatever honey you can find but everyone will think it’s artisan if you have Dottie around. See, she’s SAVING you money!
2. Baguette: If you can get your hands on Acme Bread: do it. Otherwise, any baguette will do! Slice fairly thin (but thick enough to hold your bounty of creamy cheese).
3. Fromager d’Affinois: I haven’t made this with any other cheese so it you can’t find this one then forget it (Whole Foods, specialty cheese shops).
4. Lastly, marcona almonds. These are the fancy ones. You can find plain, salted marcona almonds at Whole Foods and other specialty stores (and personally those are my favorite) but they are pretty pricey (around $10 for a small tub). Trader Joe’s has rosemary marcona almonds and they are a solid and exotic take on this recipe coming in hot at $5.99.
Spread the cheese on the baguette, drizzle a taste of honey and top with one marcona almond. Voila! You have a fancy snack. Eat by yourself in your pajamas while watching the Real Housewives or enjoy with your sophisticated and cultured friends at your evening of wine tasting. Cue Janet Jackson’s “It’s All for You.”
