5 Word Review: My baby sleeps ALL night

We were lucky enough to borrow the Snoo for Cohen from my sister (and that Snoo is on it’s 4th baby that it has sleep trained!). We agreed a few months in that if we would not borrow for #2 we would WITHOUT A DOUBT purchase and we ended up purchasing last year on Black Friday for 40% off.

“Created by Dr. Harvey Karp, SNOO is a responsive bassinet that boosts sleep using rhythms that babies love! It also calms fussing quickly and prevents risky rolling. All that makes SNOO the world’s smartest, safest, most effective baby bed” (Snoo.com).

For my family, even the sale price is a LOT of money. However, it was actually a bargain because we can’t put a price on our our sleep, sanity, or safety. Babies have logged over 50 million hours in the Snoo with no reported deaths, according to data provided by Happiest Baby. Statistically speaking, 20-30 deaths would have been expected in a similar population. I was (of course) paranoid about SIDS, but even more so, I knew the chances were way more likely for me to injure someone by making a bad judgement call as a nurse or from falling asleep at the wheel.

SLEEP & SOOTHING

  • Boosts sleep 1+ hours with unique womb-like rocking + white noise

  • “Hears” baby’s cries and automatically boosts sound + motion, just like an experienced caregiver (crying often calms in under a minute)

  • Helps most new babies within 1-2 days…and babies older than 6 weeks within 3-7 days

  • Naturally sleep trains babies; SNOO’s rhythms help infants learn to self-soothe and sleep through the night” www.happiestbaby.com

Now… what does a “responsive bassinet” set you back? $1160 (or less than $800 on sale, which it is on Black Friday). I might add that the very popular Stokke bed is $799 and it just sits there. The Snoo states it will give each baby an extra 1-2 hours of sleep per night and you can use it for 6 months. If you bought it at the sale price that means it costs less than a grande chai latter per day.

My biggest tip for Snoo owners? If you are not absolutely obsessed (or have even the slightest problem) with the Snoo, call Customer Service at 855-424-6323 for a free sleep consultation.

At the end of your baby’s time in the Snoo, your baby is accustomed to sleeping through the night in their own sleep space. After doing a lot of “Safe Sleep” research, we chose to have the Snoo in our bedroom until we were ready to wean him.

We started using it our first day home from the hospital and right away I noticed I was waking him up to eat. At the 4 week appointment our pediatrician told us not to let him sleep more than 5 hours but laughed out loud and said “but that’s not going to happen!” That night I didn’t set an alarm and woke up 6+ hours later feeling awful that I didn’t wake him up. He is now 4 months old and frequently sleeps from 7:30pm- 5am (then 5:30-7).

I’ve heard a lot of people have hesitations or fears about transitioning to a crib, but honestly, it was super easy for us. They say to stop using once your little one can get up on his hands and knees. That happens before they outgrow (because it’s OK if their feet hit the mesh). The Snoo has a “weaning mode” where it just plays the white noise and doesn’t move unless the baby is crying. After about a month of the weaning mode, he slept really well in his crib wearing the Zipadee Zip transitional swaddle and you can download the Snoo white noise to help with the transition.

The Zipadee transitional swaddle was perfect to use to transition from the Snoo to the crib (and he wore it a little past 12 months).

Some ideas to buy it for less are to buy second hand from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, or go in on it with another couple who’s baby will be at least 6 months in age from yours. They do have financing on the website, as well as a 30 day no-risk trial. If you can front the cash, you can also resell once you’re finished with it and recoup around $700 of the price you paid. I hope you can find a way to bring the Snoo into your home, because it’s been a HUGE blessing in ours!
